An early straw poll by the College Republican Federation of Alabama for next year’s state elections shows strong support for U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville as the next governor of Alabama. The poll of members and alumni showed Tuberville with 77.
Alabamians in Lamar, Fayette, Walker and portions of Tuscaloosa and Jefferson counties are heading to the polls Tuesday, June 24, for the Alabama Senate District 5 special election.
The poll, by the College Republican Federation of Alabama, shows that the heavy favorites for the Republican primary include Wes Allen for lieutenant governor and Steve Marshall for U.S. Senate. For governor, only Tommy Tuberville has announced on GOP side (Tuberville has “Other” right where he wants him, 78% to 22%).
Gov. Kay Ivey on June 16 signed a proclamation to set special election dates for the Alabama House District 63 seat, which includes much of downtown Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama. The party primaries for the seat will be held Sept. 30. If necessary, runoffs would be held Oct. 28. The general election is set for Jan. 13.
