The fire was reported around 1:40 p.m. and forced mandatory evacuations near Carter Lake Reservoir to the west, Homer and Windemere roads to the north, Dry Creek Reservoir to the south and North County Road 23 to the east, according to emergency responders.

Mandatory evacuations were issued Monday afternoon for a fast-moving wildfire west of Berthoud, near County Road 8E. A red flag warning for critical fire danger was in effect statewide. A voluntary evacuation notice was also issued for areas around Lonetree and Welch Reservoirs.

Officials say a grass fire near Berthoud that had burned near the city limits is 100 percent contained. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for residents near Berthoud. Those evacuations have been lifted.
